ITV Border News:
“Anja carried out a wide variety of duties whilst in the newsroom at ITV Border. These included television interviews with members of the public which were broadcast. Often these were carried out at short notice with little time to research the story. Anja conducted these interviews in an extremely professional fashion. She also researched, planned and set up several jobs, which were also transmitted. I found Anja to be communicative and enthusiastic and well placed for a career in journalism.”
“From the moment Anja arrived we knew she would be a valuable member of the team for her placement in June 2014. Eager to be involved in all the different types of work involved in PR ,from researching new fashion trends and packing samples to writing press releases, blogs and social media copy, Anja was extremely capable, hard working and likeable.
“Anja was a very close runner-up in this year’s Claire Mascall PR Award, which MCG PR supports and judges, and it was her evident writing skills and ability to think about different approaches for separate markets and audiences, which scored most highly. We were delighted to have her for the two-week work experience element of her prize and she again demonstrated strong creativity as well as a great eye for news.”
“Anja Swan was a pleasure to have on work experience at Star. She was enthusiastic, well-presented and professional throughout her placement. Sadly she had to cut her time short but she really made the most of the little time she had there and immersed herself into her tasks and was a real team player. She made a great contribution to issue that week and we would be delighted to have her in the office again.”
The Whitehaven News:
“Anja came to us for work experience in January 2011. She was keen, hard-working, well-mannered and understood the principles of journalism; meeting deadlines, sourcing a story, the importance of accuracy and charming great quotes from interviewees!
“While she was with us Anja covered a variety of subjects from interviewing American basketball stars to describing a trip to Auschwitz, gaining in confidence with each piece.
“Having looked at the work she has done since attending university, I am impressed, but not surprised, she has done so well. I’m sure she would be an asset to any office.”
Leeds Metropolitan University:
“Anja is a hard-working, ambitious, thoughtful and creative young journalist, whose determination to do her best no matter what has earned her glowing references from external media professionals and excellent university grades. During her third year she was runner up in the Claire Mascall PR Award whilst at the same time completing a 12,000 self-managed research project, working for Press Gang (an organisation that promotes positive stories about asylum seekers and refugees) and undertaking placements with a variety of media communication organisations.
“She has excellent multi-platform news production and creation skills and is a strong communicator. During news days, assessments and live events she has also proved a valuable team player, able to take the lead or follow direction. Any organisation lucky enough to employ her won’t be disappointed.”
